Richard Fyffe first came to Africa in the early Nineties to do charity work in Zimbabwe. But the Irish-born GM of MultiChoice Interactive TV soon found himself in Cape Town, where he helped launch a free-ads newspaper called CapeAds while lecturing in computer science at the Cape Technikon.
Fyffe, who has an MSc in Information Technology and a BA(Hons) in Economics, later left Cape Town to join M-Net/SuperSport-owned advertising sales company Oracle Airtime Sales as GM of its online division, Oracle Online Sales. The division sold internet advertising for group websites, including those owned by M-Web, SuperSport and Naspers. As the internet, telephony and television started to converge, Fyffe moved to DStv to head up MultiChoice Africa’s Interactive TV division. He has worked on the new media elements of show formats like Big Brother, Idols and Fame, combining traditional broadcast with telephony, Internet and interactive TV.
In his current role he is responsible for all data broadcast on the DStv platform (weather, sports, news, games channels, etc), the development of interactive advertising and enhancements to traditional programming.
Fyffe lives in Johannesburg with his wife, Adelaide and son William.
